November 30, 2005: How To Kick Damn Liars

This Wednesday, November 30th, it's HOW TO KICK PEOPLE IS A DAMN LIAR.
Our last show of the year with one of our best lineups of the year at a special, one-time-only venue.

THE D-LOUNGE at the DARYL ROTH THEATER
101 EAST 15TH ST, Just off of Union Square East
Basement level

Wednesday, November 30th at 7:30 PM.
$5 dollars, plus two drinks

Featuring WYSIWYG alums Bob Powers and Susie Felber, this month's show, HOW TO KICK PEOPLE IS A DAMN LIAR, is all about lies. Whether it's a lie told to get ahead, to get out of a jam, or because someone partially-dressed just grabbed you by the face and commanded you to "lie to me. Tell me some lies and I'm yours forever."

The fantastic lineup includes:

John Hodgman, author of The Areas of My Expertise, curator and host of Little Gray Books Lecture Series, recently seen on The Daily Show with John Stewart.

Carol Kolb, former contributor to and editor-in-chief of The Onion

Susie Felber
seen on VH-1, MTV-2, and in US Weekly

and music from
Andy Friedman and The Failures

The audience will be drinking drinks and playing head-games right along with the guests and hosts. Don't miss Bob and Todd's last show of the year.

There are no advance tickets for this show, but the venue should
accommodate everybody. Getting there early is a handy idea.

November 27, 2005: WYSIWYGers on TV!

We mentioned previously that Michelle Collins would be appearing on VH1 on December 19th, but we just received word that another WYSIWYG alum, Todd Levin, will also be making a December appearance on basic cable! You can check him out on Comedy Central's
Premium Blend on Friday, December 2nd at 11:30pm (or catch it on one of the zillion times they repeat the episode). Sweet!

November 23, 2005: Juke Box Heroes

While half of New York had already taken off for turkey, stuffing, and forced family fun, a small but boisterous crowd showed up for last night's WYSIWYG. We had a blast.

Luxurious prizes were to be had, and two lucky audience members left with fabulous packages of Jimi Hendrix incense, sample sizes of Britney Spears's perfume "Curious," and a guitar (one a Christmas ornament, and the other a little plastic electronic LOUD toy). Nothing but the best for our audience!

So far here's the online roundup:

* Dan's story about his days following Chucklehead (complete with period photos of the band and Dan's marvelous early-90's hair) is here.

* Giulia and Margot's story about meeting Poison is here.

* Josh's thoughts about the evening are here.

As always, if more blog posts crop up on performers' or audience members' websites, I'll be posting 'em here, so check back for more linky goodness.

The usual abundance of bloggers wasn't to be seen in the audience, but I did spot 'WYG alum Julia Langbein and some of her Wiener Philharmonic cohorts, and Melanie from NYC Creative was there filming some B-roll for an upcoming piece she's planning all about the magic and wonder that is WYSIWYG. Thanks to all of you who came out on a crappy, cold, wet night two days before Thanksgiving, and we hope to see ALL y'all at next month's "Sumthin' Jewy This Way Comes"!

November 11, 2005: WYSIWYG Film Festival -- send us your videos!

Please note: We've had a date change on this -- it's going to be on January 24!

At long last, here's the call for submissions for the first ever WYSIWYG Film Festival this January! If you're a blogger and want to be considered for the show, read on:

Call for Submissions
The WYSIWYG Film Festival
Tuesday, January 24, 2006

(Please note change of date!)

Since February of 2004, the WYSIWYG Talent Show at P.S. 122 has been the world’s only all-blogger monthly reading and performance series. This January, WYSIWYG will present its first WYSIWYG Film Festival, featuring short films from bloggers in or visiting New York City. We’re now seeking performers for this show’s lineup.

WYSIWYG shows are made up of a set of short pieces, usually readings or storytelling. For some idea of what our show’s like, feel free to poke around our website. For the WYSIWYG Film Festival, we’d like short films with the bloggers giving a short introduction and/or wrap-up in person afterwards. Travelogues, storytelling, musical performances, cartoons, short dramatic pieces, whatever -- got any weird ideas? We’re open to your suggestions for what you’d like to do and how you’d like to perform it!

Requirements:
* You must have a current, regularly-updated blog.
* Videos for the show must be no longer than 8 minutes in length.
* You must be able to present at the show on the evening of Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at P.S. 122 in New York City.

If selected:
* You must be able to send us your completed video for the show by January 1, 2006 (don’t worry – you’ll retain copyright and ownership of your work!)
* You must be willing to help us publicize the show by posting about it a couple of times on your blog.

To be considered, please email us a web link to the video you’d like submit (or, if you plan to create something new for it, a link to a video you’ve produced that will give us some sense of what your style’s all about). You can also send a QuickTime or Windows Media file on CD or DVD to:

The WYSIWYG Film Festival
c/o P.S. 122
150 First Avenue
New York, NY 10009

Deadline for submissions is December 2, 2005.

Questions? Email us!

November 11, 2005: Julia Langbein, Bruni Butcher

The AP has just run a story on our beloved WYSIWYG alumna Julia Langbein's hillarious blog devoted to eviscerating NYT food critic Frank Bruni.
They even interviewed Bruni who confessed to visiting the blog "once or twice for a nanosecond but I didn't read much."
Right, dude.

Congrats to Julia!

November 08, 2005: Chuggin' for bucks

WYSIWYG alum GirlyNYC wants to get you really, really drunk this Sunday -- and maybe give you some money too! She's one of the organizers of this here event:

Click the pic for more details.

While there won't be an official Team WYSIWYG, some of us may be there in a volunteer/highly bribe-able capacity, and we hope to see a lot of bloggers there.

November 08, 2005: Hot Dogs

It's not every day that a WYSIWYG alum releases an album. So check out "Cut Down to the Quick," out today from Dogs of Winter, a band fronted by the hawt former blogger and all-around sweetheart Brian Grosz.

Yummy, is he not? Brian performed at our very first show ("Worst. Sex. Ever." back in February of 2004), and later went on to perform in "The Dope Show" in March of '04 (you can listen to his performance from that night here) and "Minimum Rage" this past April.

While Brian may not be blogging anymore, I still get a fairly regular dose of his sexay voice whenever a Chase Bank commercial comes on (he does the voiceovers), but Dogs of Winter gives him a chance to get a little more growly. Do check the album out! You can preview it here, and you can buy it at CD Baby or Amazon. And their release party is 10:00 Wednesday night at Arlene's Grocery.

First up is this month's installment of The Rejection Show. It is the last Rejection Show of 2005, so do not miss it!

What is The Rejection Show? As if you didn't know...
The Rejection Show is a comedic based event that embraces the rejected and "turned down" material of professional and amateur writers, comedians, cartoonists, artists, and human beings whom display their creative "failures" live on stage.

As usual, WYSIWYG alum Jon Friedman hosts the mayhem, and this month another WYSIWYG alum, Julia Langbein, will also be appearing as part of the sketch comedy powerhouse, The Wiener Philharmonic.

Performance Space 122 150 1st Avenue at 9th St.
November 15th at 8pm.
ONLINE TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW!
or visit or call the P.S. 122 box office at (212) 477-5288
$7 a pop.

On the very same night (but starting 30 minutes earlier) you can also see this month's Chicks and Giggles over at Mo Pitkins. You'll be in for two WYSIWYG alumnae, Carolyn Castiglia and hosting and Susie Felber performing.
