December 2005
If you're like most New Yorkers during the holiday season, you're probably busier than Michael Jackson at a day care center, but we've got two more tasty options with which to tempt you:

Also tonight, our very own co-founder, producer, and all-around hottie Andy Horwitz will be performing at this:
Nerve.com's First Reading in Ages at Galapagos on 70 N. 6th St. in Williamsburg from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Here's the lineup:
* Andy Horwitz will read a short story that begins "I shouldn't have fucked the intern." We should point out that this story is not about our intrepid and tireless WYSIWYG intern, unless it is.
* Reverend Jen Miller will read from her hilariously debauched "I Did It For Science" column.
* Neal Medlyn will address his R. Kelly infatuation.
* Logan Hill will talk about having Leisure Suit Larry as a sex-ed curriculum.
* Rachel Hulin will read her "How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love My Vagina" essay.

Last night's WYG had everything from tiny talliths to surreptitious Christmas tree smuggling. As a goy, I found it very educational and a nice change of pace from all the Santa fanaticism we're bombarded with this time o' year. Big ups to all the performers (Susie Felber, Dan Fishback, Martha Garvey [www.myfatdogbook.com and www.myfatcatbook.com], Joshua M. Bernstein, Annie Karni, Matthew Loren Cohen, and Richard Jeffrey Rothstein). And in our monthly drawing for door prizes three lucky audience members walked away with Hannukah cookies, a stuffed Dreidl toy thingy, and Hannukah finger puppets. And we had something of a milestone too -- unbeknownst to him beforehand, the adorable Matthew Loren Cohen became the 100th act to grace the WYSIWYG Talent Show stage!
A Jewriffic blast was had by all!
Some tasty linkage for y'all:
* The delightful Richard Jeffrey Rothstein has kindly allowed us to post his story here on ye olde WYSIblog! It appears after the jump.
* If you missed the show, you missed Matthew Loren Cohen's slideshow -- but here's a taste!
* Joshua M. Bernstein's squirm-inducing tale of adolescent pseudo-circumcision is online here!
* The full-length version of the story Martha Garvey excerpted last night is online here!
* Susie Felber's rundown of the evening is here, and one of the stories she told has been published on Black Table.
Other mentions:
* Aaron's wrap-up/thoughts on Anne Frankenstein are here.
* Chris's rundown is here, as well as at the NYC Metblogs site.
As always, if I find more linkage, I'll post it here so check back. Thanks to all who performed and attended!
Read on for Richard's story from last night!

Come in from the cold and warm up with some spanking (the literary kind, of course). Join In The Flesh host Rachel Kramer Bussel for a reading from her latest anthology, Naughty Spanking Stories from A to Z 2, due out in January from Pretty Things Press, along with local contributors Cheryl B., Tsaurah Litzky, Nichelle, Bette Taylor and Michele Zipp. They will all read short selections from their work, and free candy will be served.

In December, the WYSIWYG Talent Show, the first-ever all-blogger series of readings and performances, celebrates the miracle of a one-day supply of oil miraculously lasting eight days! Join the WYSIWYG gang as we shred the last remaining uncommercialized dignity of this once relatively minor holiday with "Sumthin' Jewy This Way Comes"!

Hope to see you there!
WYSIWYGer Daniel Radosh, who performed at the Minimum Rage WYSIWYG in April, just sold his book to Scribner, and it sounds totally rad. The working title is Rapture Ready! Adventures in the Strange Pop Culture of the Religious Right.
I'm quite jealous of all the fun research he's going to get to do. I bet he gets VIP passes to a million Hell Houses next Halloween.
Publication is slated for sometime in 2008. Let's hope the End Days don't come first. It would definitely suck to have your book on the Rapture upstaged by the actual Second Coming.
