May 2006
I don't know about you, but last night's "Prom Trauma" show was WAY more enjoyable than my own damn prom! Lang Fisher kicked things off with her own true-and-tested four-year plan for how to become prom queen, Nichelle told a sweet, kind of sad story about going to prom "stag" with a girl who hooked up with her ex-but-not-really-that-ex-boyfriend, Jess Hulett told a tale of how she made her boyfriend cry on prom night, Jason Boog gave an nervously energetic reading of how he went to prom with his cheating girlfriend (and waxed enthusiastic for both Henry Miller and Bonnie Tyler -- nice), Fiffe did a performance art piece about how prom can be overwhelming in terms of desire and regret, and then The Vandervoorts (featuring Mark from everythingbut.org, Yung-En from MisterChen.net, Dorothy of the awesome web comic Cat and Girl, and Emma, who doesn't blog at all but is entirely awesome as well) rocked out in some very cute prom outfits. I'm both eager and nervous to see those pictures, because I ended up putting in an appearance as the 5th Vandervoort when the big drum in front kept scooting away so I went and draped myself over it to hold it down for the rest of the set. Anything for rock 'n' roll, baby!
We also had our usual FABULOUS PRIZES -- this time DVD's of two very promtastical movies, Jawbreaker (won by 'WYG alum and all-around hottie Claudia Cogan) and Pretty in Pink (won by one of next month's performers, Curly McDimple. We also tried to get Nichelle to get up onstage and sing "Johnny Are You Queer?" (from Valley Girl, another Great Prom Movie) but that didn't quite work out.
