February 2007
Wowie wow wow! Last night's sold-out "Worst. Sex. Ever. IV." was... well, I'd say orgasmic, but maybe that's not the best choice of words given the topic. Still, hearing funny stories about bad sex is always so much more fun than HAVING bad sex, and a good time was had by all. And it was packed! Lookit this fine crowd!
We started things off with Heather Ann Snodgrass and her hot shoes, who prefaced her story of a mythical lost condom with some hilarious emails she received from nervous former booty calls who were worried that they might be the subject of her performance. Stroll waxed nostalgic for a 20-year-old homeboy with a lazy eye and a penchant for Maya Darren; I disclosed WAY too much info with a PowerPoint presentation dissecting all the bad sex I had in 2006; and Jon W. Collins explained why all true patriots should support the troops, eat a pot roast, and fuck a sailor. Becky Ciletti then made us all remember how, when you're 22, "How about a blow job?" sounds just like "I love you" and Joe Jervisended the night with a collection of bad online come-ons and a tale of Daddy roleplaying gone terrifyingly wrong. We also had some fun prizes, like a riding crop and a curiously feathered vibrator, courtesy of Mark.
The online afterbirth thus far:
* I didn't manage to get very good pics of everyone, unfortunately, but I did get a few and they're available at the WYSIWYG pool on Flickr here -- if you took any, we'd love it if you added them to the group!
* Stroll has blogged about last night and posted his story here.
* Jon W. Collins's story is now online here.
* Joe Jervis will be posting his story soon, but in the meantime you should see some of the bad sex stories his readers have sent in here.
Lots of other bloggers were, as always, in attendance (I was all a-tizzy but I do remember spotting Crash, Mike, and Curly) so there may be other reviews and rundowns to come. If you post about the show, I'll try to track it down but it would be great if you could email me or comment here so I can link 'er up right away.
HUUUUUGE bulging thanks to all of the performers, everyone who came to the show, and our good friends at Bowery Poetry Club for making last night so deliciously dirty and fun!
So we've just learned that the advance tickets for tomorrow night's "Worst. Sex. Ever. IV." show have sold out, but there WILL still be quite a few tickets available at the door. You might want to drop by Bowery Poetry Club an hour or two before the show to get your tickets and come back, if you want to make sure you get in.
We're doing our dangedest to make sure everyone who wants to see the show can do so. Hope we see you tomorrow night!
Oh, and in other news:
Tomorrow (Wednesday) morning a little after 8am I'll be on the Bax and O'Brien show on WAQY Rock 102 in Springfield, Massachusetts to talk about the show. I think it'll be streamed on the station's website, in case you're interested.
And look for a mention of WYSIWYG in the next issue of the Village Voice!
Oh, fer Jeebus's sake.
Gawker.com has, for the third time now, lifted yet another WYSIWYG picture by our web/graphics guru emeritus Dan (see the original here). I think he sums up our feelings best:
"Seriously, Gawker, stop lifting my photos without a credit. We at WYSIWYG would be delighted to let you use pictures of our stellar cast, but a little tip o' the hat is just the proper thing to do, especially since so many of you have been in the show. You know, in the show that's happening again next week, like the one from which you stole the picture, that you might have even given a tiny plug."
On the reals, y'all. We love us some Gawker, and members of their past and present staff have even been performers at WYSIWYG shows -- heck, one of their own is even performing at next week's show -- but this is bad Internet behavior.
Cool! Check it out:
NY Post: "From Bed to Worst: True Tales of When Sex Goes Truly Wrong"
We also have word from Bowery Poetry Club that a LOT of the advance tickets are sold already, so there's not a lot of time left until the show is sold out. So if you want to be there for all the badness on the 14th, buy your ticket today!
Got your tickets yet? Worst. Sex. Ever. IV. is coming next Wednesday, and we're starting to get some press coverage, and if the past bad sex extravaganzas are any indication this bad boy is going to sell out soon! Advance tickets are available here.
* We're mentioned in GO NYC Magazine's roundup (we're on page two)
* Byrne Harrison interviewed me about WYSIWYG for Stage Buzz
Couple more things coming up, which I'll post links to here.
Also, here's some 'WYG alum news:
* The fabulous ladies of Variety Shac have a new short film out -- it's called "Andrea's Art" and can be seen here.
* Soce the Elemental Wizard is performing this Thursday, February 8, at 7pm at Bluestockings Bookstore, 172 Allen Street (@ Stanton). Free!
* Desiree Burch's new show, 52-Man Pickup, performs this Friday, February 9th @ 7:30 PM at Galapagos Art Space, 70 North 6th Street in Williamsburg. Free!
* While we'd love for everyone to come to Worst. Sex. Ever. IV. on Valentine's Day, another option for that evening is the latest offering from 'WYG alums Jon Friedman and Giulia Rozzi -- a joint show from The Rejection Show and Mortified! So if you're not coming to WYSIWYG, check out their evening of love song karaoke, live music, DJ, drinks and partying at The Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater. The show is $10. More info and advance tickets available at the Rejection Show website.
